Description
The Masonic building on the SE corner of Front and Union streets. The wagon has a load of fruit baskets headed for old Mission peninsula. (The baskets may have come from the Wells-Higman Basket factory.) The left man on the top of the load was Earl Hodge who had a orchard on the peninsula. The automobile behind the wagon is an early touring car.
Our "Throwback Thursday" photo shows us how apples were transported off of Old Mission Peninsula ca 1910. This wagon is on Union Street near the southeast corner of Front and Union, with the Masonic building in the background.
The photo's inscription notes that the baskets were headed out to Old Mission. They may have come from the Wells-Higman Basket Factory which was located at 8th and Wellington, on the north shore of Boardman Lake. The man on the left on top of the wagon is Earl Hodge, who had an orchard on the peninsula. Notice the early touring car parked behind the wagon.
