Description

Photographic black and white postcard of "The Manitou Limited," which ran out of Crescent, North Manitou Island. The train was owned by the Smith & Hull Company, who also owned the Oval Wood Dish Company of Traverse City. The train was a narrow gauge, which hauled timber from the farther reaches of North Manitou Island to the village of Crescent, where it was milled and shipped to the mainland. Image was captured by famed Leelanau County photographer Edward Beebe.
